Sydney-born Royalston, aka Dylan Martin, is one of the most exciting writers/producers to emerge from the Australian electronic/dance music scene in recent years. His broad sound morphs from deep glitchy tech minimalism right through to epic cinematic rollers. Dylan studied classical composition and has worked in many areas of the music industry. He has written and produced soundtracks for animations, commercials, TV documentaries and a very artistic feature film, whose director still insists is not porn. Dylan has worked with artists such as house superstar Hook N Sling and cutting-edge video artists The Kingpins, whose collaborative work with Royalston resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Royalston’s early tracks found favour with the likes of DBridge, Loxy and Fresh, but it was his debut releaseĀ ‘The Test’ on Med School in 2009 that really marked him as one to watch. The floor-filling‘Tough Luck’ soon followed on Hospital and thenĀ ‘Glitchbitch’ on Med School. As a DJ has played alongside international drum+bass heavyweights such as Marky, Concord Dawn & London Elektricity.
In 2011, he did one half of “Hospital Records presents Drum & Bass Club Anthems 2011″ with Nu:Tone which was released in Australia and has also released “All My Life / Heisenberg” on Bad Taste Recordings. With a 12″ release confirmed on Med School later in the year, make sure Royalston is a name that stays firmly on your lips.
